Wood pigeon

Wood pigeon(Columba palumbus)

This one is getting a bit too tame It just sits around all day waiting for the smaller birds to drop seeds from the feeder,
The UK's largest and commonest pigeon, it is largely grey with a white neck patch and white wing patches, clearly visible in flight. Although shy in the countryside it can be tame and approachable in towns and cities. Its cooing call is a familiar sound in woodlands as is the loud clatter of its wings when it flies away.

  1. I do like pigeons - I hit one once in the car and I was distraught for ages! Have got loads in the garden as you do but it would be nice to see a bigger variety of birds there! I have recently moved and don't have as many birds in my new garden - I used to get bullfinches, goldfinches, long tailed tits, greenfinches, woodpeckers, all sorts - now it's just pigeons, blackbirds and sparrows, but trying my best to coax them in as I know they are about!
